We have big dreams to make a positive impact on the communities we touch and the world's precious resources. Taking action today for our kids and the ones to come to live well on a thriving planet. That's why we've committed to net zero and have a bunch of sustainability initiatives in action.
People
Whether you’re a guest, roommate or in our local or global community we want to celebrate you.
At room2, we pay fair wages, offer great benefits and encourage our roommates to grow and develop. We also have a company-wide program, Team Planet, that rewards employees for making sustainable changes, making sure that sustainability is embedded across all departments.
There's healthy and plant-based food options available at all the hometels. We want our guests to have delicious food with a lower environmental impact, this is why we buy local and offer a selection.
There are plants galore in our hometels. This doesn't just look great it also connects you to nature, cleans the air you breathe and is proven to improve creativity.

Here are some things we’re doing:
To read in more detail about our sustainability efforts, take a look at our first ever ESG Report.

Read the roadmapRecyclables are sent to recycling to be remade into new products, food waste is sent to anaerobic digestion to make fertiliser, and general waste is made into energy.
All of the energy demand is met by renewables, from solar, wind and hydro. We also make some of our own energy through solar panels and heatpumps.
We've measured the water volume that comes out of each tap and shower to make sure it is just right. There is also a water collector and a blue roof that stores water and slowly disperses it in the local environment, to reduce the risk of flooding.
Hard and soft technologies have been used to lower carbon throughout the building like designing our own lab rooms. The lab rooms monitor energy usage, air quality and water usage to see where improvements can be made to lower our impact.
Our aim is to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible. Any unavoidable carbon will be offset by planting and maintaining giant clumping bamboo in Nicaragua. Bamboo is pretty awesome, harvesting it doesn’t kill the plant so it can regenerate. This project also supports the livelihoods of local people.
View the video of our visit to Nicaragua.Low carbon and circular materials and products have been used throughout. To lower our footprint, reduce waste and promote reuse to our guests and employees. These initiatives depend on the hometel and range from buying recycled crockery to reusing books in our preloved library.
View our sustainable procurement policyWhole life net zero means that all the carbon emissions from the life cycle of the building will = zero. This is everything from the construction, operation to end-of-life and every stage in between. We’re the first hotel group to do this but hopefully not the last.
You’ll find plant propagation across our sites, a green roof, herb garden and even bees on the roof at room2 Chiswick. We are always on the lookout for ways to improve biodiversity so if you have an idea please let us know.
room2 Chiswick is designed to be more energy efficient than a typical UK hotel. We’ve achieved this through the smart design of the building and energy saving systems like ground source heat pumps.

Here are some things we’re doing:
Supporting the local communities of our hometels is one of our core values. This means buying as local as possible, building partnerships and supporting local charities too.
Every place is unique and we want you to experience the local area and the things that make these destinations special.
We’ve identified 5 principles that align with our values to design places that integrate with the community and improve the environment. 1. choosing natural, 2. prioritising local, 3. timeless spaces, 4. for people and 5. circularity.
